Biography
Although a trained economist at first degree level from the Delta State University, Abraka, Nigeria, though a Planning Officer with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) by occupation, for Akanbi Albert Afeso, Creative Writing is a calling. A native of Ososo, a scenic town of streams and rocks in the undulating Somorika hills in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, he was born on 31st March 1982 in Edo State but spent most of his formative years as a teenager in Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria. Added to the mentoring, charity works and social rights advocacy activities he often gets busy with, he is also a sought-after Public Speaker who delivers upbeat and informative presentations on topics that bothers on Leadership, Youth Empowerment, and Creative Writing.
A certified holder of many endorsement in the writing craft, he also holds an MBA in Finance Management from the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Nigeria. One of his works was among the 50 stories selected from 38 writers from 16 countries that appeared in the African Book Club's maiden anthology The Bundles of Joy and Other Stories from Africa which was published in the United States of America in December 2014. His work Urushi was published online in , Nigeria's largest online stories website. That Sunday Afternoon won the WordMaster Writers' Challenge competition in May, 2015 to mention a few. He was among the 20 writers selected from over 800 extra-ordinary application from around the world who were invited to attend the October 2015 Sangam House Residency in Hessaraghatta, Bangalore, India to complete his Work-in-Progress, The Forked Stick. He is the author of the novels Cold Black Night, November 5 and Thankless, all of which were released to national acclaim. He is a recipient of the Guardian of the Nation International (GOTNI) and the African Book Club awards amongst others. He was at a time the Osun State Coordinator of Society of Young Nigerian Writers, currently a member of the Association of Nigerian Authors, and a member of the Board of Trustee: Paulash Initiative, an NGO dedicated to helping mentally challenged children. He is the father of one.
