I walked along the lake late yesternight. The water showed not a ripple. The entire lake was in total silence. There was no lapping on the shore. Then a large bullfrog called out and was answered a second later from somewhere.
I was studying the stars trying to triangulate my position in the universe when a surprisingly loud owl very close by let out a call, moments later to be answered by another of its kind far off in the forest. I watched a couple satellites move across the Milky Way when the silence was disturbed again by the call of a Loon. It too was immediately answered by the wail of another from somewhere in the darkness.
I only realize now while writing this we were all doing the same thing, trying to fix our locations. I guess we all share the comfort of knowing we are not alone in our universe.
