Brother Bill, ‘The Bubba Buddha’ Fantasy

by Bill Maranda

Pretty Horses & Fast Women

Once I reached mid-life, I realized that I have never truly appreciated anniversaries, never genuinely honored flags, statues or icons, and I established that relics for just what they are.

And then there’s monetary considerations placed on “ART”, an entirely monumental collective disaster in and of itself.

I am thinking of figuring out how to make beer. After all, beer is food, therefore beer is one of three necessities for a Life of Happiness.

Then I could become a Gnostic monk, convert Big City Lodging into an Abbey subsisting as the ecclesiastical do in Belgium, without becoming too, “ascetic”.

Would my friends and family still come visit me, spend time, dine lavishly, absorb films, endure my nonstop poppycock monologs?

If not, then maybe it’s that I would close my Abbey off to the whole known World, to be happily cloistered in my solitude of gluttony and drunkenness.

Anyhow, either way, I’m almost gone, even though I’m not going anywhere.

Having never appreciated anniversaries in the very least, not for me nor anyone else, now that it’s here, I have realized that I am missing out on something.

Just what, I am not sure of, which has awakened me. I wonder what I am supposed to do now?

OK, what say let’s do ‘Noir’? That’ll be just fine with me. So, let’s have a beer!!

Brother Bill, ‘The Bubba Buddha’ Fantasy

When:

Come about 4 PM the First Saturday in May, each and every first Saturday of May, for my eternity!

Our aniversary race should start:

Churchill Downs tries to start on time, gets going about 6 PM EST, every year but the pre-race hubbub & hoopla with those fast women often sets it back a tad.

Watch the pretty horsies walk from their barn to the Paddock. Listen for “Riders Up” as jockeys are told to mount their pretty horsies.

Two beer minimum, then singing of “My Old Kentucky Home.” 7 p.m +/- The start of the Kentucky Derby.

The race typically lasts around 2 minutes, establishing “The Most Exciting 2 Minutes In Sports.”

What do you need to bring:

Nothing except wear your ‘lucky’ underwear.
